Ovis vignei from Iran: NextGen project low coverage sequencing

This sequencing project is part of the NextGen project, supported by the EU 7th Framework programme. The project aim is to gather data on all major types of genetic variation in the genome of sheep. The project will provide precise methodology for studying the biodiversity aspect of disease resistance and the relationship between genome and environment. Analysis of genome diversity will enable the identification of genomic regions associated with adaption and disease resistance. The project will evaluate the potential of wild ancestors of sheep as reservoirs of genetic diversity for the domestic species.
