To investigate the effects of long-term exposure of NPs on bacterial resistance to antibiotics, we exposed notorious pathogens P. aeruginosa PAO1 to sublethal concentration of PtNPs for ~7200 generations. Excitingly, long-term exposure of PtNPs promoted bacterial susceptibility to imipenem (IPM) and ciprofloxacin (CIP). Bacterial susceptibility to IPM and CIP attributed to the overexpression of oprD and down-regulation of mexEF-oprN, respectively.
