GWTC-5.0 is the fifth edition of the gravitational-wave transient source catalog jointly constructed by three major international collaborations: LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA. As a cumulative dataset, it collects gravitational-wave candidate signals detected from the start of the first observing run to the end of the second part of the fourth observing run. This substantial dataset contains over 300 identified compact binary coalescence events, with data originating from raw strain time series acquired by ground-based laser interferometric gravitational-wave detectors, and has undergone calibration and noise processing. The creation of this dataset is based on multiple scientific observing runs of the international observational network, where high-confidence transient signals are screened from observational data through systematic searches and parameter inference workflows. This dataset is primarily applied in the field of gravitational-wave astronomy, aiming to promote in-depth research on cutting-edge scientific issues including the properties of astrophysical source populations such as black holes and neutron stars, the cosmic expansion rate, and tests of general relativity via statistical analyses of compact binary coalescence events.
