This work seeks to describe the relationship of subsurface microbial diversity to changes in sediment transport and provenance - in particular, horizons linked with past sediment disturbance. By linking changes in community composition to sedimentary structure, we constrain the population inherited from the water column and the overprinting of DNA signatures with shallow burial.
