Total disaster risk management budget Japan FY 2015-2024

In the fiscal year 2023, the disaster risk management budget in Japan amounted to approximately 3.5 trillion Japanese yen and was planned to be reduced to around 1.9 trillion Japanese yen in fiscal year 2024. Since the country is in an area where several tectonic plates meet, it is vulnerable to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
