L'Histoire in the Jardin des Tuileries, Paris

Antoine-François Gérard was a French sculptor and winner of the Prix de Rome in 1789. This sclpture, named L'Histoire, was created in 1760 and was one of Gérard's last commissioned sculptures. He was famous for his depictions of Liberty, the female personification of France. In this sculpture Liberty sits upon a high column (base removed from this model) with wings, reclined to look over the Jardin du Carrousel in Paris. This object is part of Scan The World.
