This project details 12 synthetic surface wave inversion benchmarks. These benchmarks were developed to validate an open-source surface wave inversion workflow called SWinvert, developed by Joseph P. Vantassel under the supervision of Professor Brady R. Cox at The University of Texas at Austin. The development and application of the SWinvert workflow is detailed in Vantassel and Cox (2020). By making these benchmarks publicly available the authors hope to 1) provide the information necessary to revalidate the SWinvert workflow and 2) allow others to quantitatively measure the performance of future developments in surface wave inversion. The project is organized into three main directories: True Ground Models, Inversion Inputs, and Inversion Outputs. The True Ground Models directory contains the 12 ground models from which the synthetic experimental dispersion data was derived. The Inversion Inputs directory contains the experimental dispersion data and the inversion parameterizations used in the validation of the SWinvert workflow. The Inversion Outputs directory contains the 100 lowest-misfit inversion-derived ground models and their corresponding fundamental model Rayleigh wave theoretical dispersion curves for each of the 10 trial inversions performed.
