VPRS 11445 Central Correspondence Files, Multiple Number System [FACCTS]

This series was the central correspondence system for the Education Department (VA 714), later Ministry of Education and Training (VA 1112) and Department of Education (VA 3098) between 1984 and 1994.The Departments file registration system was decentralised with each section of the Department permitted to create its own files using its allocated registry code. Each section was linked to the central database allowing for sequential numbering of files. This database or system was known as FACCTS, which stands for File and Correspondence Classification and Tracking System. The FACCTS Administrator was responsible for the allocation of the registry codes and maintenance of the central database. The number of files created for each section varies greatly however the subject matter reflected the functions of that section.
