Discussion of 清谈/清談 [qīng tán] empty chat, idle talk, impractical discussion - Trainchinese

1 - This is a special cultural phenomenon during the Northern and Southern dynasties, where educated men would meet and discuss about philosophy without paying very much attention to “mundane“ things, e.g.their profession, their family. This phenomenon disappeared fully later in the Tang Dynasty.

此乃南北朝时期特有的文化现象，彼时之知识分子汇聚一堂，论道哲学，对诸如职业、家庭等世俗之事关注甚少。此一现象于唐王朝时期逐渐消失殆尽。
