VPRS 9563 Assets Register

The asset register was created to record the value of assets maintained by the Government Printing Office (Law Printer) (VA 1035). This agency was restructured in 1990/1 and the function of producing Victorian Government Publications such as Hansard and The Victorian Government Public Service Notices was transferred to a core unit, the Law Printer. A card was completed for each item purchased by the Law Printer. This card listed the following information about the asset in three columns.The first column contains details of the item including:* Unit number* Description of item* Serial number.The second column consists of details of purchase including:* Order number* Material received voucher number* Date item was purchased* Supplier of item* Cost.The third Column comprises the amount/percentage of depreciation per annum assigned to a particular item. Information includes:* Financial year* Amount of depreciation* Cumulative depreciation* Net value of item.A card per item was maintained over 6 to 8 years from date of purchaseFrom c. 1988 the assets register was created electronically and kept in the form of computer printouts. These printouts were produced at different times of a financial year, and all sections were included. Information recorded in the printouts is similar to that on the cards. The information is listed in five sections.* Section 1 contains details of the asset, including a description of the asset, asset number, and serial number* Section 2 contains details of the purchase price* Section 3 contains details of the depreciation of the asset* Section 4 contains details of the Insurance of the asset* Section 5 contains details of the disposal of the asset including any capital gains made on the item.
