Mapping Linear and Configurational Dynamics to Fake News Sharing Behaviors in a Developing Economy

This dataset comprises anonymized survey responses from 1,028 participants across three Haitian cities, collected between February and May 2023. To gain deeper insights into the dynamics of fake news dissemination, we employ a dual analytical framework: Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to explore linear relationships and Fuzzy-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) to uncover complex, asymmetric patterns. Our study examines how news-find-me orientation, trust in social media, information-sharing tendencies, and status-seeking motivations influence individuals’ propensity to share fake news. Furthermore, we assess the moderating role of social media literacy in shaping these relationships
