Time series genome centric analysis in activated sludge microbial communities

In this study, we investigated functional dynamics of bacterial populations in a municipal activated sludge wastewater treatment plant under full-scale conditions over a period of three years. The time interval included two distinct periods of disturbed and stable operational . Following genome reconstruction from metagenomic data, we assessed the functional potential, the number of rRNA gene operons and the in situ growth rate of microorganisms present throughout the time series.
