Attention to Extreme Weather Events

The dataset uses the Google trends search intensity index as a proxy for national attention to climate change and the Australian Disaster Resilience Knowledge Hub to identify extreme weather events. The data regresses the Google Trends Intensity Index for the search terms 'climate change' and 'global warming' in the months immediately following three different types of extreme weather events in Australia between the years 2008 through 2020 at the state-month-year level. A difference in identification strategy is used to analyze the difference in attention to climate change and global warming following extreme weather events.
