The research was aimed to identify the potential plant growth promoting and disease suppressing microorganisms for the sustainable management of plant health. The soil samples from the different ecosystems including agriculture, forestry and marine were collected and used for isolation of plant beneficial microorganisms. Such isolated microorganisms were screened for their efficacy in promoting plant growth and antagonistic activity against pathogens affecting major vegetable crops in the tropical conditions. The elite bacterial strains were further tested under glasshouse and field conditions for its performance against root rot, wilt and foliar diseases in vegetable crops. This has resulted in the identification of Bacillus subtilis strain OG2A as potential agent for the management of wilt disease in tomato and other vegetable crops.
