Rhythmic Corpus of 100 Spanish Golden Age Plays

This dataset, Rhythmic Corpus of 100 Spanish Golden Age Plays, contains one hundred securely attributed comedias by nine major playwrights of the Early Modern period. Each play is provided in two versions: (a) the original text and (b) its corresponding automatic rhythmic scansion, revised and corrected. The corpus underpins the article “From Atoms to Waves: Rhythmic Stylometry for Authorship Studies of Early Modern Spanish Theatre”, by Álvaro Cuéllar, published in Janus. Estudios sobre el Siglo de Oro. It enables full replication of the experiments reported in the article and is intended to support further improvements to rhythmic stylometric analysis, authorship attribution, and metrical research on Golden Age drama. This dataset builds upon the materials and methodology first introduced in the article “Stylometry and Spanish Golden Age Theatre: An Evaluation of Authorship Attribution in a Control Group of One Hundred Undisputed Plays” (Cuéllar, 2024), published in Digital Stylistics in Romance Studies and Beyond, edited by Robert Hesselbach et al.
