资源简介:
RESEARCH BACKGROUND: This digital video work by Biothing (the computational design laboratory of Alisa Andrasek with Jose Sanchez) was created for Ross Lovegrove's installation at the 23rd Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk, Belgium. For his response to the design biennale's theme of Future Primitives, Lovegrove created a fibre glass model and suspended it from the ceiling to act as a 3D screen for Biothing's video projections. RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION: Based on the simulation of NASA wind tunnel data, Biothing used computational physics for an aestheticized simulation of the car in the wind tunnel. The projections wrapped around the curved form of the car and gave the illusion of a three-dimensional free-floating image. According to Lovegrove, 'What this achieves is a sense of motion, lightness and almost aquatic serenity, a gentleness not felt when standing next to a contemporary car, where intuition and emotion are suppressed by the physical complexity, weight and often cold aggression of its construction.' RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE: Andrasek was invited by Ross Lovegrove - a renowned pioneer of industrial design - to design the video projections. The Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk is a high-profile annual event of design, product development and innovation, with strict criteria imposed on the selection and the quality of exhibitors. In 2012, the Biennale curated by Lowie Vermeersch had a record number of 84,000 visitors. The event was widely profiled in media outlets such as Wallpaper and Azure Magazine.
