The aim of the study was to assess the effect of restricted soil water availability on the metabolically active soil bacterial community. For this purpose, experimental differently managed forest plots either dominated by Fagus sylvatica L., Picea abies or Pinus sylvestris L. were covered by moveable roof panels controlling the intensity of drought. The different managed forest plots were established in three different landscape areas embedded in the Biodiversity Exploratories: Schorfheide-Chorin, Hainich-Dün and Schwäbische Alb. The bacterial community was analysed by pyrosequencing of the 16S rRNA.
