EPA ACRES Brownfield Property and Remediation Accomplishment Dataset

This dataset was constructed from data provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Assessment, Cleanup, and Redevelopment Exchange System (ACRES), accessed through the EPA Envirofacts public data service. The dataset combines property-level information, remediation/accomplishment records, reference information, and U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) tract-level demographic data. The primary EPA source tables are GRANT_PROPERTY, which contains property-level identity, location, physical, and regulatory attributes, and GRANT_PROPERTY_ACCOMPLISHMENT, which contains time-stamped records of remediation-pipeline milestones reached at individual properties. The REF_GPA_TYPE reference table was used to interpret accomplishment types. ACS tract-level demographic variables were joined to properties using the Census tract identifier recorded in GRANT_PROPERTY. The EPA tables were extracted in full using scripted, paginated requests to the EPA Envirofacts API. The resulting extraction contains 44,777 unique records from GRANT_PROPERTY and 172,278 records from GRANT_PROPERTY_ACCOMPLISHMENT. These counts are slightly below the totals reported by the EPA tables because a small number of API row-range requests returned empty responses during extraction. These intermittent empty responses resulted in missing records from specific requested ranges rather than a systematic exclusion based on property characteristics or geography. The deposited dataset represents the processed data used in the associated research study and is provided to facilitate transparency, reproducibility, and reuse.
