The data sets show investigations into the effects of Silymarin (SIL) on testicular function and oxidative stress status of ethanol (EtOH) and cadmium chloride (CdCl2) treated rats. Sixty-six (66) adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 6 groups of equal animals, which includes control and experimental groups receiving SIL; EtOH; CdCl2; EtOH + SIL and CdCl2 + SIL. EtOH and CdCl2 caused significant decrease in sperm count, progressive motility, normal sperm cells and serum testosterone. There was also a significant reduction in superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase levels while significant (p<0.05) increase in malonaldehyde (MDA) was observed in EtOH and CdCl2 treated rats. SIL consumption decreased the lipid peroxidation and increased testicular enzymatic antioxidants in the EtOH and CdCl2 treated rats. Semen parameters and testosterone in EtOH and CdCl2 treated rats were ameliorated following SIL consumption.
