The Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) was established in 2008 as a partnership between the University of Johannesburg (UJ), the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) and the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG), with municipalities in Gauteng also represented. The objective of the GCRO is to inform policy in various spheres of the Gauteng government with data on the quality of the lives of people who live in Gauteng.
