NSW Foundation Spatial Data Framework

Foundation spatial data is defined as “the authoritative geographic information\r\nthat underpins, or can add significant value to, any other information. It supports\r\nevidence-based decisions across government, industry and the community”1.\r\nCriteria has been developed to determine non-foundation from foundation. To be\r\nclassified as foundation, the spatial data must contain one or more of the following\r\ncharacteristics to be deemed ‘foundation’:\r\n• be geospatial\r\n• essential for public safety and wellbeing\r\n• critical for a national and state or government function\r\n• contribute significantly to economic, social and environmental sustainability.\r\n\r\nNSW has adopted the ten data themes identified by ANZLIC. These are:\r\n1. Administrative Boundaries\r\n2. Land Parcel and Property\r\n3. Geocoded Addressing\r\n4. Transport\r\n5. Positioning\r\n6. Place Names\r\n7. Elevation and Depth\r\n8. Imagery\r\n9. Water\r\n10. Land Cover.
