Our group works with microorganisms established in the Antarctic environment (King George Island, Maritime Antarctica).Microorganisms possess a remarkable adaptation to the environment and horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is one of the mechanisms involved. Elements involved in HGT can eventually improve the survival ability of bacteria and include, among others, integrons, plasmids, transposons, etc. Our group works with some of these elements, including integrons, previously reported in clinical environment and plasmids, as extra-chromosomal genetic elements.
