Nicotiana tomentosiformis Map. Nicotiana tomentosiformis

Nicotiana tabacum is an allotetraploid generated after an interspecific hybridization between Nicotiana sylvestris and a member of the section Tomentosae, possibly Nicotiana tomentosiformis. These provide, respectively, the S-genome component and the T-genome component. The effort to develop the syntenic relationships, if any, between tetraploid tobacco and the diploid progenitors has been pursued because of the bread wheat experience. N. tomentosiformis accessions exhibit polymorphism and were used to develop a genetic map of one of the diploid progenitors of N. tabacum.
