Screen for identification of mutations that confer cellular heat resistance on fission yeast

The optimal growth temperature of the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe cells is around 30 degrees celsius, and their growth is significantly impaired at 38 degrees celsius and above. To isolate spontaneous mutations that confer heat resistance to fission yeast cells, a wild-type strain was incubated at 39 degrees celsius on agar growth medium, and viable mutant colonies were analyzed by whole genome sequencing.
