VPRS 17057 Transcripts of Cases Relating to Gold Offences Heard Before the Court of Petty Sessions

This series consists of transcripts of three cases; two before the Bendigo Court of Petty Sessions and a third before the Eaglehawk Court of Petty Sessions. The records were transferred from the court house but the reason for the accumulation is unclear as transcripts are generally not made for cases heard before Courts of Petty Sessions. It could be that the transcriptions were made by a local newspaper.Despite this the transcripts appear to have three things in common. They all: seem to date from 1910 (although one does not have the year recorded); relate to matters pertaining to gold; and, involve charges brought before the court by the same investigating/arresting officer, Sergeant Charles Joseph McKenna.The cases are: McKenna vs Wah Yook and Ming On in relation to illegal gold dealing, case heard before the Eaglehawk Court of Petty Session on 19 August 1910; McKenna vs Harry Cycil Boydell in relation to failure to complete entries in his dealer's gold entry book, case heard before Bendigo Court of Petty Session in 1910 (this case was struck out); and, McKenna vs John Louis Daykin in relation to stolen gold, heard before the Bendigo Court of Petty Session on 13 March and assumed to be 1910 (this case was adjourned to later in the week).
