On the way back, the mission received Emperor Jiaqing’s Reply to King George III (1816), which was accompanied by a Latin translation. In the reply, the emperor instructed the King not to send an ambassador anymore, as the embassy was not obedient in following Qing court ceremonies. The Latin version was translated by Christian priests serving in the Qing court (L. Liu, 2019, p. 18).
