Genetic analysis for conservation of Libellula angelina Selys, 1883.

Libellula angelina Selys, 1883 is classified as Critically Endangered in the Japanese Red List and designated as Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora by Act on Conservation of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Genetic analysis has become indispensable for the conservation of organisms, but there is currently little genetic knowledge about this species. As a start, we conducted genetic analysis of an adult L. angelina inhabiting in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Based on this data, we will develop genetic markers that can compare the diversity between populations or between individuals. As a goal, by increasing the number of individuals analyzed and using the developed markers, we will advance the elucidation of genetic diversity, which is essential for the conservation of this species.
