Eurytomidae

The family Eurytomidae is a polyphyletic group of small hymenopterans within the superfamily Chalcidoidae. The larvae of many Eurytomidae are phytophagous, feeding on stems, seeds, galls or other plant parts. A number of them are parasitic but target plant dwelling larvae. Overall the group contains no defining features from other Chalcidoidea; they are typically dull, with a pocked or punctured looking thorax and a very think pronota. The antenna are sometimes hairy in appearance. The group is likely to be divided into a number of separate families in the future. There are about 1400 species and 90 genera found worldwide.
