Indicator : FDI Projects Theme: Economy Source : Department for Business and Trade (DBT), Inward investment results Frequency : Annual Definition : Inward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is an investment from a foreign investor into a UK enterprise. The UK entity then becomes an affiliate enterprise, which is either a subsidiary, branch, or an affiliate company of the parent company – the foreign investor. In practical terms, a foreign company can either set up a version of itself in the UK, or can acquire/merge with an existing UK company. This dataset shows FDI projects in the UK by region between 2015-16 to 2023-24 - projects are shown as the number of projects and the proportion of total UK projects in each region. In this dataset, 'midlands' refers to the combined area of the West Midlands and East Midlands regions.
