Soil samples were collected in 2015 from arid environments in Chile. The samples were collected at the surface, and every 2 cm, from 1 cm to 21 cm deep. Total environmental DNA was extracted from each sample, and sequenced when the DNA purity allowed it. This specific sample was collected in the Llano de la Paciencia, near the Salar de Atacama, at 15 cm deep.
