The Bangla-translated 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) has been used to assess mental health issues among Bangladeshi nationals without being appropriately validated. Hence, we examined the item quality of this questionnaire, its latent structure, and measurement invariance across gender and psychiatric sub-groups. A community sample of 788 adults (249 females) aged between 18 and 69 years completed the questionnaire.
