云光学厚度指介质的容积消光系数（单位为长度单位的倒数）对高度的积分。云光学厚度定义为垂直大气柱中所有云层垂直消光光学厚度（即散射光学厚度加吸收光学厚度）的总和，云光学厚度代表的是云的整层消光能力，COD在可见波段范围是独立的，为无量纲量。卫星的云光学厚度产品，时间频率10分钟，空间分辨率2km。

Cloud Optical Depth (COD) refers to the integral of the volume extinction coefficient of the medium (unit: reciprocal of length) over height. It is defined as the sum of the vertical extinction optical thickness (i.e., scattering optical thickness plus absorption optical thickness) of all cloud layers in a vertical atmospheric column. COD represents the overall extinction capability of the entire cloud layer, is independent in the visible wavelength range and is a dimensionless quantity. The satellite-based Cloud Optical Depth product has a temporal resolution of 10 minutes and a spatial resolution of 2 km.
