THE CONTEMPORARY IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING ENGINEERING PERSONNEL IN MILITARY EDUCATION

Abstract: The character of modern warfare has changed profoundly over the last two decades, shifting from a reliance on manpower and conventional firepower toward technologically integrated operations built on unmanned systems, robotics, electronic warfare, and artificial intelligence. This transformation has placed engineering competence at the center of military effectiveness. This article examines why the training of engineering personnel has become a decisive factor in contemporary military education, drawing on a review of historical developments, current battlefield experience, and institutional practices in several countries. Using a qualitative, literature-based method, the study analyzes technological drivers of change, curricular models adopted by military-technical institutions, and observed outcomes where engineering training has been prioritized. The findings show that armed forces with strong engineering education pipelines demonstrate faster technology adoption, greater self-sufficiency in equipment maintenance and adaptation, and improved overall combat readiness. The article concludes with recommendations for strengthening engineering components within military education systems.
