资源简介:
Description of the datasetsThis repository contains the datasets underlying the analyses presented in “Paternal effects without paternity? Testing non-genetic male influence on offspring size and brood size in a gynogenetic vertebrate, the Amazon molly (Poecilia formosa)”. The data were collected as part of a controlled laboratory breeding experiment designed to test for non-genetic male effects on reproductive traits in a gynogenetic vertebrate. Two datasets are provided.1. offspring_sizes.csvThis dataset contains offspring-level information used to analyse offspring size at birth. Each row corresponds to one offspring and includes information on female identity and condition at parturition, brood characteristics, and the identity and condition of the males most likely to have triggered embryogenesis.Variables include:female_ID: Unique identifier of the Amazon molly female.female_age_at_parturition_days: Female age (in days) at the time of parturition.female_size_at_parturition_cm: Female total length (cm) at parturition.female_experimental_block_prior_experiment: Experimental block from a prior experiment.female_treatment_prior_experiment: Prior experimental treatment (predator vs. control).female_tank_system_ID, female_tank_system_level, female_tank_system_centrality: Housing information used to control for tank effects.female_brood_number: Chronological brood number per female.female_origin: Clonal origin of the female (all females originate the same grandmother but have different mothers).primary_male_ID, secondary_male_ID: Identity of the male most likely (primary) and second-most likely (secondary) to have triggered embryogenesis.primary_male_total_length_cm, secondary_male_total_length_cm: Average total length (cm) of the respective males.primary_male_died_within_two_months, secondary_male_died_within_two_months: Indicator variables used in robustness analyses.brood_ID: Unique brood identifier.brood_size: Number of offspring in the brood.mean_offspring_size_mm: Mean offspring body length (mm) at birth for the brood. This dataset was used for analyses of offspring size and for estimating among-male variation in offspring size.2. brood_sizes.csvThis dataset contains brood-level information used to analyse variation in brood size. Each row corresponds to a single brood and includes female identity and condition, brood characteristics, and the identity and condition of primary and secondary males.Variables are identital with those in offspring_sizes.csv, with the exception of:mean_offspring_size_mm: average offspring size per brood (in mm). This dataset was used for analyses of brood size and for estimating among-male variation in brood size.NotesAll Amazon molly females derive from a single clonal lineage and were raised individually under highly standardized conditions.Phase 1 reproduction (first broods) was excluded from the main analyses, as described in the manuscript.Missing values reflect cases where offspring size or brood size could not be recorded.
