The Helicobacter pylori Genome Project (HpGP), an initiative of the U. S. National Cancer Institute (NCI). The HpGP is establishing a large-scale international biobank of clinically annotated Helicobacter pylori strains for molecular studies addressing the role of bacterial diversity in the gastric cancer cascade. The specific objectives are: 1) to identify genomic and epigenomic bacterial features that may contribute to pathologic effects with potential relevance to cancer etiology; 2) to establish a resource repository of multidimensional data and well-characterized strains for utilization by the scientific community; and 3) to promote collaborative research projects.
