Cultures established from waters sampled from a large-scale experimental crude oil spill in a pristine freshwater lake. This was done to investigate the response of the native microbial community to a spill, and the efficacy of remediation strategies. Samples were then analyzed using metagenomic methods, followed by MAG generation, leading to a pangenomic analysis.
