Despite extensive study with a variety of molecular markers, the population structure of human-infective subspecies of Trypanosoma brucei, and the relationship between these subspecies and with T. b. brucei, is unclear. Draft genomic sequence data of multiple field isolates of all subspecies will be generated to test the effectiveness of genomic sequencing to resolve outstanding questions in T. brucei population genetics and epidemiology. This is a collaboration with Annette MacLeod (University of Glasgow). This data is part of a pre-publication release.
