Atmospheric pollution is the one of the most significant environmental challenges facing the global community. Advancing air pollution control technology is crucial to achieving enhanced environmental quality. The development of environmentally friendly materials that are both highly effective and cost-efficient, along with the utilization of novel materials for controlling atmospheric pollution, holds great promise. Humic acid (HA) is a type of organic macromolecule widely distributed in nature and has a wide range of applications in various fields, including environmental protection, agriculture, medicine, and the development of new materials. Exploring the utilization of HA in the field of air pollution control can facilitate the development of innovative materials and methodologies for effective air pollution management. A systematic review of the literature on HA-related atmospheric issues, both domestically and internationally, has been conducted. We concluded the research process of HA in the atmospheric field, including HA excitation and modification technologies, the preparation of new composite materials, as well as a comprehensive review of HA applications in the field of air pollution control. Control measurements include the removal of particulate matter, NOx and SOx, and the removal of malodor/odor in the three fields of gas pollution. In addition, a comprehensive study on the application of HA in the field of air pollution control is also presented.
