The Southern California Social Surveys continued the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area Surveys [LAMAS], conducted between 1970 and 1976. The 1986 SCSS focuses on how people feel about life and living in southern California. Topics include mental health, health status, smoking and alcohol consumption, rating of public schools, opinion of neighborhood, socialization with ethnic groups, discrimination, view of the death penalty, political participation, political party ID, pollution, financial well-being, major purchases, women's rights, TV ownership, VCR ownership, relationship to close friends, social network, educational attainment, union membership, basic demographics. The data contains an oversample of blacks and hispanics. There are 1038 respondents.This study is provided 'as is' and questions may be directed to the Data Archive. Note: There was no 1985 study. 1984 is followed by 1986.
