Here, we present the complete genome sequence of a novel Vibrio species: Vibrio floridiensis IRLE0018, isolated from the Indian River Lagoon, a large estuary in eastern Florida, USA. To our knowledge, this represents the first time this species has been described and its two circular chromosomes sequenced (size of each). Our analyses indicate that V. floridiensis is the closest known relative to the emergent pathogen Vibrio vulnificus.
