High throughput sequencing of a DNA segment of the gene URA3 integrated in the genome of Escherichia coli. This gene was subjected to mutagenesis using an in vivo mutagenesis system based on protein fusions between various base deaminases (BD) and the T7 RNA polymerase (T7RNAP). The sequencing data here deposited provide evidence of the type mutations that the mutagenesis system created within the gene. The mutagenesis system can be used for in vivo diversification of target genomic sites allowing the directed evolution of genes.
