Resolving the annual pelagic distribution of Tufted Puffins in Alaska: field data from 2018-2021

This dataset consists of the data collected in the field as part of our study to deploy and retrieve geolocators on Tufted Puffins breeding on Middleton Island, Alaska. his study used geolocator technology (Migrate Technology, UK) to resolve the heretofore unknown migratory routes and wintering areas of tufted puffins breeding in the Gulf of Alaska. We deployed 60 geolocators over 2 years (30 each in July 2018 and 2019) on adult tufted breeding on Middleton Island. Forty-two geolocators were retrieved when birds returned to breed the in subsequent summers (June 2019 [16], 2020 [24], and 2021 [2]).
This dataset is one comma separated file (AOOS_MDO_TUPU_Field-Data_2018-2021.csv) containing a record for each of the puffins handled, banded, and measured (n = 65 total) from 2018-2021. This file contains information including:

- Burrow: ID, location (lat/lon)
- Bird: ID, USGS band number, morphometrics, sex, breeding status, date/time captured and recaptured
- Geolocator: ID, weight, date/time deployed and retrieved
- Isotopes: sample weight, N & C signals, N & C concentrations, d15N, d13C; samples from blood and feathers
