Data used in the paper 'The use of photos to investigate ecological changes', published in Journal of Ecology.<br>data_criteria_scoring: eight authors have assessed the three discussed methodological approaches based on 8 criteria: spatial coverage, spatial resolution, temporal coverage, temporal resolution, methodological consistency, versatility, resource-effectiveness and environmental sustainability (see box 1 in the paper). Each author gave a score between 1 (very low) and 5 (very good). These data were used to create the spider graphs in Fig. 3 of the paper.<br>data_sankey_chart_nr_of_papers: number of papers found per research topic and per methodological approach, during a systematic literature search. These data were used to create the sankey chart in Fig. 2 of the paper.
