Leading municipalities for commuters in Italy 2019, by destination

Among the largest cities in Italy, Rome has the highest number of people travelling daily for work or study purposes. In 2019, the city of Rome counted 1.5 million commuters. About 1.4 million people commuted within their own municipality, representing 95 percent of all commuters in Rome. In the same year, Bologna and Verona were the two Italian cities recording the largest percentage of people commuting outside their own municipality, with about 20 percent of the total.
