Phyllanthus amarus Schum & Thonn.(Euphorbiaceae), popularly known as bhuiamlaki, has a long history of use as a herbal edible source for the treatment of a broad spectrum of diseases in various parts of the world. Phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin, the two major secondary metabolites of this plant are known to possess significant hepatoprotective properties. De novo sequencing of this potential medicinal herb has been performed for the assembly and analysis of the leaf transcriptome with a view to identify the different transcripts and metabolic pathways.
