Milling byproducts can be used for industrial ABE fermentation by clostridia. However, the composition and properties of these substrates require production hosts that exhibit specific qualities (e.g. hemicellulolytic, high butanol tolerance). The C. beijerickii strain mbf-VZ-132 was able to produce good ABE yields on these substrates. Hence, the genome of the strain was sequenced.
