In the cattle manure compost that had a strong ammonia removal effect, the presence of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) was verified. While, in the other one that had a weak ammonia removal effect, only AOB was detected. In the cattle manure compost that had a strong effect, both bacterial and archaeal ammonia monooxygenase A genes increased after ammonia exposure, and the bacterial and archaeal communities between the replicates after ammonia exposure were more homologous than those before ammonia exposure, respectively.
