Correlation between gut microbiota and presence of fecal fungal isolates in Crohn's disease patients.

In this study we investigated the interaction between gut microbiota composition and fungal isolates in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) patients. Metataxonomic analysis (by pyrosequencing) was performed to evaluate the correlation between microbiota and presence of S. cerevisiae or other fecal fungal isolates, showing mutual influences between the fungal and bacterial communities.Understanding the impact of mycobiome on host's immune system and the interaction with bacterial community provides useful insights on the role of intestinal fungi in health and disease.
