the main goal was to evaluate the intraspecific variability of Hymeniacidon perlevis microbial assemblages, over changing environmental factors (i.e. air exposure and pollution) in natural gradients. We hypothesized that chronic exposure to these environmental stressors, occurring even at a small spatial scale (from meters to few kilometers) are factors strong enough to change the ecological properties of H. perlevis microbial assemblage. In order to detect patterns at different assemblage scales, we investigated changes in the whole assemblage, as well as the core and rare fractions.
