资源简介:

The Dataset The IPR Publisher Dataset (hereafter “dataset”) is transcribed from the List of Publishers in each volume of the Irish Publishing Record spanning from 1967 to 1994. It indicates whether a publisher was listed during the period. The names of the publishers and their addresses were transcribed from the list. Some minor amendments were made to correct typos and misspellings, as well as standardisation of addresses. The dataset was manually transcribed from physical copies of Irish Publishing Record. Please let us know if you spot any errors, mistakes, and omissions. We will update the Dataset accordingly. Sources of the Irish Publishing Record The titles and publishers listed in the Irish Publishing Record between 1967-1988, compiled in University College Dublin, were based on data collection from a variety of sources. The most important source was materials submitted to the National Library of Ireland and University College Dublin under copyright legislation. However, it was evident that many publications were not included in their catalogues. The Editor, Mrs. Eithne Bennet, collected information from local librarians, bookstores, and publishers to unearth materials that had escaped the copyright lists. Hence the list of publishers in the dataset includes personal names, local clubs, organisations, and societies. During this period, titles listed in the Irish Publishing Record include: books, pamphlets, government publications of a general nature, yearbooks, and the first number of new periodicals issued within the year. Music scores as well as books about music are included. The Irish Publishing Record between 1989-1994, compiled in the National Library of Ireland, were selected from six databases: Linen Hall Library, National Library of Ireland, North-Eastern Education and Library Board, Queen’s University of Belfast, Trinity College Dublin, and University College Dublin. The compiler team acknowledges that any record of a national publishing history involves editorial choices about what counts as Irish publishing, which languages, publication formats, and institutional contexts fall within scope, and how works are categorised. That is why an explicit statement referring to how this dataset is a transcription of a physical series of publications spanning 1967–1994 has been made under the heading The Dataset. The dataset should be understood as a scholarly tool reflecting the sources available and the decisions made at the time of compilation, rather than an exhaustive or authoritative record. The dataset should also be understood as a representation/reflection of cultural and heritage data, and as such has been treated with the appropriate ethical responsibilities that this entails in regards to issues of authority/ownership, sensitivity and respect. The Introductions of Irish Publishing Record between 1967-1988, compiled in University College Dublin, include numbers of titles categorised under ten subject categories, number of titles published in Irish language, and number of titles published in Dublin, Northern Ireland, and other publishing centres. These numbers are included in the supplementary data sheet: IPR Stats from Introductions.
